Blood Tests and Insulin Injections
Question from Garden City, New York, USA:
Are non-invasive monitors going to be available soon?
Answer:
There are numerous groups around the country working on “laser-type” monitors but none seem to be very close to a monitor that would be feasible for patients to have. I am confident that the technology will some day be available, but I wouldn’t count on a reliable, low-cost, portable system in the next 2 years. What may be just around the corner is a “minimally invasive” system where you could put a small needle into the skin and it would give you readings for several days. One thing I am sure of is that 10 years from now we will look back and laugh at the primitive systems currently in use.
