Question from Miami, Florida, USA:

Our son is three years old. We have been having difficulty keeping glucose levels normal. Is this normal when you’re recently diagnosed? His levels range from 200s-500s. He has Type 1 and was diagnosed eight months ago.

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Yes it is very difficult to keep blood glucose levels in range, especially in a 3 year old. However, we would adjust the plan to see as many of the readings less than 200 mg/dl as possible but also avoiding as many lows as possible. Therefore the overall blood sugars in a preschool age child would have to be higher than in an older child.
