Question from Brazil:

Why is it so important to take care of the feet when you have diabetes?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Diabetes is the leading cause of non-traumatic amputations in the United States. These are caused by excessive blood glucose over time causing damage to the nerves (loss of feeling in the feet) and poor circulation in the feet and legs. The combination of the two leads to increased wounds and infections. It is not only important to check the feet and take care of them, but the first step in foot care is good diabetes control.
