Aches and Pains
Question from North Carolina, USA:
My nine year old son has had a virus a couple of times in the past two months, and now, for about one and a half weeks. he has been suffering from massive headaches. His sugars will be fine first thing in the morning, then by 9-10 am they are running in the high 300s mg/dl [16.7 mmol/L]. He has found no relief from pain relievers, and is not able to function properly in school, nor does he want to play. Could this be from his virus, or is it common for children with diabetes to have an unusual amount of headaches?
Answer:
This could easily represent a serious medical problem that needs to be addressed by your pediatrician. Please have your son evaluated right away.
