Question from Kentucky, USA:
My 13 year old sister has had type 1 diabetes for almost three years, and sometimes her blood sugar levels can rise super high for no apparent reason. She is on two types of insulin and is careful with her diet. What could cause this to happen?

Sometimes it is very hard to no why blood glucose readings rise for no reason. Careful monitoring is important as is watching what food intake, exercising regularly and making sure there is enough insulin being given. At age 13, puberty can affect glucose control and sometimes more insulin is needed to keep the readings in the required range.
