My husband, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about five months ago, has lost a great deal of weight and cannot get any back on. He is currently taking Starlix before meals and won’t take insulin. What should I do ?

The most important point to make is that Starlix [nateglinide] is inappropriate therapy for a person with type 1 diabetes; Insulin is the appropriate treatment. Your husband has to be instructed by a qualified diabetes team, and he has to be receptive to needing the therapy. Sometimes, people don’t want to start insulin because they are in denial. However, it more important for wellness to receive the treatment which is most appropriate.
