Question from Rockford, Illinois, USA:

I am 41 years old, have had type 1 diabetes for 18 years, and my blood pressure is usually 134/84. Is this considered high for a person with diabetes? Would medication for high blood pressure be beneficial?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

The recommendation of the American Diabetes Association is that the blood pressure should be controlled at a level less than 130/80. Therefore, your pressure is too high according to this standard, and you need to talk to your physician about treating this.
