I have gestational diabetes, and I was just wondering how was it found. Was it just stumbled upon?

Gestational diabetes is diagnosed based on the results of an oral glucose test. A patient has a blood sample obtained after not eating for 8-12 hours. Then she drinks a solution containing 100 grams of glucose. Her blood is then drawn at one, two and three hours after finishing the drink. If two or more values are abnormally elevated, then she has gestational diabetes.
