It is often routine to monitor blood sugars in the newborn, and it is extremely unlikely that it was done with any thought for neonatal diabetes which is very rare (about 1:400,000 births). Blood sugar levels, depending on the time since birth or a feeding, vary between 30 and 100 mg/dl [1.7 to 5.6 mmol/L].
