How is a definite diagnosis of type 2 diabetes made in a child?

The diagnosis of diabetes must first be made based on blood sugar readings. Determining if that diabetes represents type 1 or type 2 diabetes can be a more difficult task since there is no test that can clearly determine with 100% accuracy whether diabetes is type 1 or type 2. Rather, this determination is best made by an experienced physician using a detailed history and physical examination, and occasionally some blood tests (serum insulin level, islet cell antibodies, GAD antibody, C-peptide, etc.) which can be helpful.
