Question from Syracuse, Utah, USA:

I am 29 weeks pregnant, and I have just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Is it possible to not have sugar in your urine and still have gestational diabetes?

Answer:

It is possible to have gestational diabetes and not have glucose in your urine. Similarly, in pregnancy it is common for women to spill glucose into the urine but not have diabetes. Thus, this is a poor means of evaluating glucose control.
