Insulin Analogs

advertisement
Question from Jacksonville, North Carolina, USA:

My adult son is on Ultralente with Regular, and his doctor wants to switch him to Lantus with Humalog. The problem is, since you can’t mix the two insulins, this means going from a minimum of three injections/day to four. Are there any fast acting insulins that will mix with Lantus?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Nothing else can mix with Lantus (insulin glargine) because of its chemical configuration. Don’t worry so much about number of injections, worry more about glucose control and hemoglobin A1c levels as well as ways to prevent/decrease episodes of hypoglycemia.
