Question from Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies:
My daughter is one week old and they cannot find a reason for her seizures. Can an infant of a week old have diabetes? If so, can it be complicated by maltodextrin in the infant formula causing seizures?
Answer:
From: DTeam Staff
Although one form of diabetes can occur in the newborn, it is exceedingly rare and malto-dextrins in the formula would not lead to seizures. There can be many other causes for seizures at this age, but you will have to rely on your daughter’s doctor to find the answer. I hope all goes well.
