Question from Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania, USA:

My four year old grandson has had brittle type 1 diabetes with seizures for over two years. He now has chronic bowel problems. Is this bowel problem a spinoff of his diabetes?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

It is very unlikely that he has diabetes-related bowel problems at this age and after such a short duration of diabetes. However, depending upon his symptoms, his doctors may consider testing for celiac disease which is an autoimmune problem more common in those with diabetes.
