My 62 years young father, who has diabetes and is currently lifting weights, wants to know if creatine is a safe supplement to take.

No because creatine is a stressor for the kidneys.

Separate from your question about creatine, encourage him to check with his ophthalmologist to make sure it is safe for him to be lifting weights, as lifting weights might cause damage to the eyes if there’s retinopathy present.
