Question from New Ulm, Minnesota, USA:

I have heard the pancreas has two functions. One is producing insulin. What is the other function?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

The pancreas indeed has two functions. In addition to producing insulin and other hormones in the Islets of Langerhans, the rest of the pancreas produces digestive enzymes which are secreted into the intestine to help break down protein, fats and carbohydrates. This function is typically not affected by diabetes.
