Nesidioblastosis is a disorder of infancy although it has been reported as an extreme rarity in adults. Hyperinsulinism at that age is usually due to a benign adenoma [insulin-secreting tumor of the pancreas; also called an insulinoma]. In any case both these conditions, assuming no laboratory error, are excluded by the normal serum insulin levels.
