I know how insulin was discovered, but why is insulin called insulin (how did it get its name)?

The trouble with American education is that it doesn’t get down to basics, meaning of course Latin and Greek. Otherwise you would all know, as Dr. McCleod did, that the word comes from the Latin ‘insula’ meaning an island.
