Question from Connecticut, USA:
Is insulin released immediately when a non-diabetic eats? How long does that insulin last? Does it have a peak like NPH or Humalog does? How can it sense how much to release?
Answer:

The pancreas is very sensitive in those that are lucky enough not to have diabetes. Insulin is immediately released from the pancreas in response to increasing blood sugar levels. In addition, insulin is all one type — rapid acting. Just like with an insulin pump, there is always a “basal” insulin release from the pancreas all throughout the day and night. Great question!
