Question from Kansas City, Missouri, USA:

What effect does diabetes have on a unborn during the last trimester when the glucose has now become a problem?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

A mother who develops diabetes late in pregnancy can have a very large baby. In addition, the baby makes excessive insulin if the mother does not control her blood sugar very well. Thus, after delivery, the baby is prone to low blood sugars. This is temporary, and the baby will adjust its insulin production.
