Insulin Pumps

advertisement
Question from Pennsylvania, USA:

I have been on an insulin pump for about two years, and suddenly I am needing twice as much insulin! I was on a 1 unit to 15 grams of carb ratio; now it is 1 unit for 30 grams of carb.

Answer:

I hope that you are not taking twice as much insulin for your bolus doses as before. By my calculation, you should be taking one-half as much because your present ratio calls for the same amount of insulin for twice the amount of carb, not more insulin for the amount of carb. Please double-check to make sure you are dosing correctly.
