Question from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA:
Does breastfeeding decrease the incidence of type 1 diabetes?
Answer:
From: DTeam Staff
This question is usually asked in another way namely, “Does early cow’s milk formula infant feeding increase the incidence of type 1A (autoimmune) diabetes?” The link was first proposed in Finland some twenty years ago, and over time reports have argued both ways. Recently however, the matter seems to have been finally settled by a number of reports showing that early exposure to cow’s milk in the diet does not increase the risk of diabetes. By inference, this implies that breast feeding offers no benefit in this respect.
