Insurance/Costs

Question from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada:

I am 28 years old, recently diagnosed with diabetes, and my physician has me testing twice a day. However, although I work full-time, I have no health insurance or any financial recourse for the strips used for testing, and the cheapest strips the I can find are about $90 for 100 of them. Any suggestion on where I can purchase them or receive some help with the cost?

Answer:

I suggest that you contact the Canadian Diabetes Association for information about resources in Canada.

Pardon my ignorance, but doesn’t the Canadian government provide health benefits to all citizens? Do the benefits vary by province?
