English

My five year old son has type 1 diabetes, diagnosed at 15 months of age. My other son is two months old, and my wife does not have enough milk. Is it ok to give him formula, such as S-26, that you can buy at the supermarket?

English

For some years researchers especially in Finland and New Zealand have proposed that an important environmental trigger for the development of clinical diabetes in genetically susceptible children is early exposure to certain kinds of cow’s milk. In your circumstance and especially in view of the fact that your second son has only about a 5% chance of developing type 1A (autoimmune) diabetes anyway, I think that you should use one of the infant formulae available in the supermarket.
