At what blood glucose level does damage begin to occur to the human body? What begins getting affected first?

We know that damage occurs above 200 mg/dl [11.1 mmol/L], for sure. Small vessels in eyes, kidneys, and nerves are affected first. We also have good evidence that large vessels are affected by any abnormal glucose; even a reading of 120 mg/dl [6.7 mmol/L] is worse for you than an 80 mg/dl [4.4 mmol/L]. Mortality rates for heart disease increase as fasting and postprandial glucoses go up even within what we call the normal range. That’s why diabetes control is so important.
