Question from Lake Worth, Florida, USA:

We have recently noticed that my four year old granddaughter has adult body odor. After play, she smells like an adult who wears no deodorant. Isn’t that awfully young? Doesn’t that have to do with hormones?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

It is quite young to notice this, but it may be due to a simple and benign condition known as premature adrenarche in which the adrenal glands produce slightly more of their own hormones. It is important that your granddaughter’s parents have her checked out by a paediatric endocrinologist.
