Question from Perris, California, USA:
When a child is sick with a cough and the flu, is it possible that there will be sugar in the urine? We took our five-year-old child to the doctor because she was not eating at all. The doctor did a urine test and it came back with sugar in it. I am worried about it and would appreciate your advise.

Sugar in the urine is always abnormal and should be followed very closely by your pediatrician. Having the flu or a cold virus will not cause a child to have sugar in the urine.
