Blood Tests and Insulin Injections
Question from Marshall, Texas, USA:
How long does it normally take to get test results from the anti GAD test?
Answer:
An anti GAD level is one of the key tests in differentiating Autoimmune Diabetes and whilst it requires some laboratory specialisation it is not a test that usually has any clinical urgency. The turn around time between taking the sample and getting the hard copy result to the doctor, where both units are well known to each other, would normally be around two to three weeks and the same would hold where the test is outsourced to one of the big commercial clinical laboratories. This still leaves many opportunities for administrative delays and particularly between the doctor and the patient or his/her family.
