Four months prior to the child being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, he was slightly burned on his upper arm and side with hot water. The surgeon used Transcyte dressing for his wounds which healed in about one and a half weeks. Are you aware of any research or investigation regarding the relationship between Transcyte dressing and diabetes? Could a trigger for his diabetes be a reaction to the dressing? What tests can be done to confirm this?

I don’t believe there is any relationship between your son’s diabetes and what was used to treat his burn. It is possible that the stress of the injury precipitated the onset of symptoms by causing strain on the already failing islet cells. However, it was almost certainly not the underlying cause.
