Question from Lykens, Pennsylvania, USA:
I have gestational diabetes. My blood sugars just recently seem to be getting higher. I am 37 weeks and 5 days along. I also have a cold with a mild cough and a stuffy nose. I haven’t taken anything for it yet. Could the cold be making my sugars rise?

Infections can be associated with increased blood sugar, although this is more typical in type 1 diabetes. There is a natural increase in insulin resistance as your pregnancy progresses. So, this may just be a coincidence with your cold.
