Question from New York, USA:
My sister was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and lately her blood sugar levels have been very low before lunch. Does this mean that she is taking too much insulin in the morning or not eating enough for breakfast/snacks?

Both possibilities have to be investigated. If it is not obviously one issue or the other, a reasonable clinical decision would be to decrease her insulin in the morning to prevent her from getting low. However, if she is eating very little in the morning, and there is relatively more insulin for the food, she may want to eat more breakfast or a mid-morning snack to prevent the pre-lunch lows.
