Traveling
Question from Highland Park, Illinois, USA:
In planning for possible travel, I am curious what problems may develop in traveling through Europe with diabetes. Do you have any ideas? Is there any concern with air travel, or with traveling in Europe with a Freestyle meter and U.S. purchased insulin? How do we dispose of needles? What do we do with the changing time zones with regard to insulin and meals?
Answer:
There should be no issues travelling with the FreeStyle meter or US insulin. The meter is available and in use throughout Europe and the same is true for most insulin. It is always sensible to carry enough insulin to avoid having to replenish stock while travelling.
