My 16 year old nephew has type 1 diabetes, and his urine is very sticky on the bathroom floor. Is he taking too much insulin, or eating too much sugar?

Sugar appears in the urine when the blood sugar is greater than 180 mg/dl [10 mmol/L]. Most teens have blood sugars this high occasionally, and at those times, will have sugar in their urine.
