Question from India:

Are there any hormonal drugs which do not cause your blood sugar to increase and promote weight gain? The patient is 44 years old and weighs 100 kilograms (220 pounds). He has mild diabetes and takes one or two metformin capsules daily.

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

So far, metformin is the best choice of drugs that lowers blood sugar and can help with a moderate weight loss. It is possible that the metformin dose could be increased. You should speak to your doctor about that. There are some new drugs in the development stages that might be able to lower blood sugar and cause weight loss, but we probably won’t see them available soon.
