Honeymoon

Question from London, Ontario, Canada:

I am aware of people with type 1 diabetes going through the honeymoon stage, but do people with type 2 experience it?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Reduction in blood sugar by any means at the onset of type 2 diabetes can reduce insulin resistance, but the process is in no way analogous to the honeymoon seen in type 1 diabetes. See Rossetti L. Glucose toxicity: the implications of hyperglycemia in the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus. Clin Invest Med. 1995 Aug;18(4):255-60.
