Question from Lawton, Oklahoma, USA:
Have they tried to do pancreatic transplants in children yet? If so, where do I need to go to look for information on this subject?
Answer:
From: DTeam Staff
Nobody will experiment with children, but there are many such experiments with adults. The problem with such transplants is still the need for immunosuppression and all the side effects that are potentially lethal with immunosuppressive medications.

[Editor’s comment: There are instances in which a child can receive a pancreas transplant, but the child usually has pancreatic cancer, nesidioblastosis, or exocrine malfunction.
