Question from Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada:

My 11-year-old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in December. It is hereditary in our family. The last week or so, he has complained of feeling lightheaded all day long and sporadic headaches. Is this associated with diabetes?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

I don’t think feeling lightheaded or having headaches might be linked to diabetes itself, except if sometimes there are accompanying low blood sugar levels, even not low enough to cause symptoms. Just check sugar levels when symptoms start to appear.
