Insurance/Costs

Question from Horn Lake, Mississippi, USA:

We are trying to find a foundation or some type of facility that will help to buy the child’s insulin. The testing materials are free, but the medications and syringes that he needs are not and they are very expensive. My friends barely make more than the maximum requirements for Medicaid or he would be on it. We just need help because they do not have the money to continue to buy the insulin and needles that he needs. What can they do?

While the family may not qualify for Medicaid, your question did not mention if the family considered enrolling their children in the state’s child health insurance program (CHIP). CHIP is a subsidized health insurance program administered through the state that provides significant resources to kids. The family can learn more information at the Mississippi Division of Medicaid web page. A second choice for the family is to learn more about pharmaceutical assistance programs. The family can learn more about these resources at Rx Assist, a clearinghouse for the many programs administered by the companies that produce DME supplies and pharmaceutical products.
