Insulin Pumps

advertisement
Question from Chicago, Illinois, USA:

Are there a lot of children at age five months put on insulin pumps? If so, what brand do you recommend for the best control? Current dosage is one and a half units of NovoLog in the morning and one unit in the evening. We have a genetic mutation type diabetes and, therefore, are no longer considered type 1.

From: DTeam Staff

There are lots of babies on insulin pumps and no one manufacturer’s pump seems better or worse. All are the individual preferences of parents and/or diabetes teams. But, if you need the smallest dosing possible, you might wish to consider an Animas pump, a Cozmo pump, or the OmniPod Insulin Management System. At such low current injection doses, you would likely need to dilute insulin and you should discuss this with your diabetes team.
