with Flight Controller and Aerospace Engineer, April Blackwell, and guest, Laila England, moderated by Kerri Sparling

On Tuesday, August 24th, Tandem Diabetes Care joined us for our Masterpiece Product Theater series. April Blackwell shared her experience as a Flight Controller and Aerospace Engineer, and how living with type 1 diabetes naturally incorporates the qualities that flight controllers work tirelessly to instill: discipline, competence, confidence, responsibility, toughness, teamwork, and vigilance.

April was joined by 14-year-old, Laila England, who shares the same dream as April: to be an astronaut with type 1 diabetes exploring space. Laila has raised thousands of dollars to find a cure and better treatments for T1D so that she can break down the barriers that currently prevent her and anyone with diabetes from becoming an astronaut in space.
