As someone who has been living with type 1 diabetes for 34 years now, I have seen so much change in the way we can and do care for ourselves. I remember a time when it was very frowned upon for a type 1 patient to have a baby. I’m proud to say that I delivered a perfectly healthy baby boy on 4/23/99. And on 7/29/23 I was able to be in the room to watch my beautiful granddaughter (my first grandchild) be born into the world to a mommy who had gestational diabetes! She, my daughter-in-law, and my son are all in perfect health and I am over the moon excited for this phase of my life! Here’s this picture of me with my granddaughter that I truly love! 💕
