I was diagnosed October 9th 2009 in North Carolina and I was rushed to the hospital with my parents where I learned I had type 1 diabetes. I was released after three days in the hospital and for a year and a half I was in my honeymoon phase. We moved to Oregon a little after two years after my diagnosis. I struggled a lot during school and my teen years. I struggled with depression and anxiety a lot. I can’t count how many times I went into DKA or was put into a medically induced coma while in my teens. I struggled with a lot of substance abuse. In 2019 I met my now husband and we got pregnant after a year together and I really got put through trials with that pregnancy. We now have two beautiful baby girls and are working on having our last. My diabetic journey has been a long and hard one. When I found out I was diabetic my A1c was 18.9 and my first pregnancy I was 13.6 and my second pregnancy I was 7.8. I am now 9 months post partum and my A1c is 7.3 and I couldn’t be happier at where I am in life.
