I was diagnosed just after my ninth Birthday. In those days, I had no glucose meters, insulin pumps, carb counting. It was a scary time as my father was also diagnosed at nine and had already lost his vision and had had a stroke. When he passed from complications at 32, I assumed that was also my fate. Very scary for a young person. I hurried to live my life as quick as I could. I have been blessed however. I purchased my first glucose meter in my eighth month of pregnancy with my first child. Since then, technology has allowed me to live my life more normally than I envisioned. My health is pretty good, with two healthy children and four healthy grandchildren. I am blessed every day.
