Miles

From his mom, Amy:

When my son Miles was diagnosed with type 1 at the age of six, we had no idea what his life would look like from that day forward. As a little boy, he was happy, energetic and outgoing – and we didn’t want anything to stand in his way. As I look back at the last ten years, Miles has endured a decade of injections, pump site changes, glucose alarms, interruptions to his day, long trips to Joslin for his endo check-ups, calls and texts from his parents and other caregivers, and days when he just didn’t feel well. But through it all, he has pursued his dreams – playing baseball, soccer, golf, fishing, working as a landscaper and in a restaurant, traveling, going to concerts, hanging out with his friends, and most recently – getting his driver’s license. Technology and care have come a long way in just ten years, and for that I am grateful. He will always have to think about his diabetes, but it’s something that can stay in the background as he lives life on his terms. As we recognize his diabetes anniversary this month, I am filled with pride and hope that things will continue to get easier for Miles and everyone who lives with T1D.
