January 7, 2024 will be my 10 year diaversary. My first 6 months, I had a very difficult time accepting my diagnosis and didn’t know if I would be able to continue doing the sports I loved. I wasn’t jiving with my current treatment team, and it made it harder. I decided to switch my Endo 6 months in, and ended up finding a great one, along with a fantastic diabetic education team, and thank goodness for that! It is greatly because of my educator helping me that I have done well in the last 9.5 years doing weird stuff like maneuver Brazilian jiujitsu and competing with a pump and CGM, running a half marathon, going through a pregnancy, getting into nursing school (and just graduating with my BSN!) I hope to become an amazing diabetic educator so I can help type 1’s do the things they truly want to do. Instead of looking down on having T1D, I’m choosing to use it as a tool for a better world and hopefully better outcomes for my T1Ds!
