Being diagnosed at age 12.5 was not easy. At the time, nurses told me, “If you don’t manage it ‘right’ you’ll die or be deformed within five years.” Needless to say, that set off a cascade of unfortunate events for a pre-teen. However, the turmoil of this time led me to become what I am doing. I’ve been practice as a licensed marriage and family therapist for over 10 years specializing in chronic disease management. I am married with two children. I am the only person with type 1 in my whole family for as long back as we know. I hope to be the first and the LAST. Thank you!
