I was the first in my family, and at the older age of 25, to get T1D in 1999. Within just a few years, three of my nephews also developed the disease. I now have three more nephews and my third child at age 18, all come down with T1D. And my dog. So we are just a bit familiar in living with it. What I don’t know, and moves my heart, is that my family looked up to the way I have been able to handle it through the years. And they looked to me for strength even when I thought I didn’t have much more left. I have been so impressed with the strength of them. Technology has made it so much easier than it was just a few decades ago.
