I was diagnosed with T1D at 32 months old. I do not at all remember any of it. My mom told me my sugar was in the 500s. She had to give me my injections because I was too young to handle it back then. I’ve seen so many changes to treatment and testing over the years. From having to use a dipstick to check for sugar in my urine to now wearing a CGM. From taking 1 shot a day to now taking different types of insulin that provide much better control. I can remember my dad telling me that they had told him & my mom that I likely wouldn’t live past 40 or so. I’m currently 57 and I plan on going here for many more years. I’ve seen and learned so many things over the years and am still learning new things. Diabetes care is ever evolving and I’m so happy I’m still here to evolve with it.
