Alyssa Wilkerson

Being diagnosed as a 12 year old was a whirlwind of emotions. Between starting 8th grade and now navigating a disease, most days were filled with tears and anger. As time went on the anger and sadness only got worse. I went on and was denied a driver’s license because my blood sugars were not under control. This caused more anger but eventually I got help and I got better. There are still many sleepless nights and days where I am angry but I am now celebrating my 10 year anniversary in the best control I’ve ever been in! That girl who was starting her 8th grade year never thought that she would become anything. I am now a licensed EMT and am completing my bachelors in nursing! I like to believe that I am a diabadass!
