Carolyn Ball

Diagnosed at 7 years old in June, 1975, my parents were told I would not live past 30 years of age. My Mom spent lots of time and money making sure I always had the best treatment options available. I used test tubes with the Clinitest tablets and urine (boy those got hot!) so moving to blood glucose meters and then a CGM were each life changing for me and my control. I started with a pump many years ago once a tubeless one came out. I have been so lucky to be a healthy, long standing Type 1 and currently have no side effects or complications from Diabetes. It is a hard disease – takes so much time, money, and thought processes, but I always try to stay positive and look at how blessed I am to be able to have the things I need to take care of myself. I am currently 56 and am so proud to have proven the initial doctor’s prognosis wrong. I look forward to one day receiving my 75 year medal!
